Are you interested in birth photography, but you're worried about the cost?

I get it; birth photography can be expensive, and it's important to understand why.

Let's talk about it!

Friends and family have both asked me why would I want to shoot birth photography. And they've told me they would never pay that price for something like that. I tell them that's fine. It really isn't for everyone.

But, you have to understand, I tell them they should think about it like this when it comes to the price:  What is the average cost for wedding photography? For a typical wedding these days clients are going to pay between $3000 - $5000 for an 8 hour day. In most cases that is just for the service and then you have to purchase your digitals images or any product.

When I go into a labor room I spend the entire labor with my family. From admission to up to 2 hours post delivery.  Sometimes it's quick and sometimes I'm there for 36 hours.  I TRY to make sure I'm not falling asleep if it's overnight (It just doesn't feel right to nap, lol). But, sometimes a person will just nod off!

I personally prefer to offer clients a full gallery of their experience with me.  But everyone does things differently. So, to say I spend more time with my laboring mommas than my brides is a completely accurate statement.  Not to mention, I offer my mommas 2 weeks of on call time before/after their due date.  Peeps, that stuff is stressful. You never know when a baby wants to make their appearance and the camera bag goes everywhere with me. LOL!

So, here are a few points as to why birth photography is a huge investment!

Birth photography requires a specialized skill set and experience.

As a birth photographer, I'm not just a skilled photographer, but I also have a deep understanding of childbirth and the birthing process. I know how to work with low light situations, respect your privacy and intimacy, and most importantly, I know how to capture the moments that matter most.

Birth photography takes a lot of time.

As mentioned above, births can last a few hours or even up to a day or more. As your birth photographer, I'm on-call 24/7 leading up to your due date, and I'll often spend several hours editing and processing the photos after the birth to ensure that the final product meets my high standards and your expectations.

The cost of birth photography includes more than just the time spent at the birth and editing the photos.

It also covers the cost of professional-grade camera equipment, including cameras, lenses, lighting, and editing software. Additionally, as a birth photographer, I invest in ongoing training and education to improve my skills and stay up-to-date with the latest techniques and trends.

How much is birth photography in YOUR CITY?

The cost of a birth photographer can vary depending on experience and the services and products offered. On average, you can expect to pay anywhere from $1,500 to $4,000 for a birth photography package that includes digital files with a print release (which means the ability to print an unlimited number of images at the lab of your choice).

Birth is a life-changing experience that you'll never forget, and having professional photos to look back on can help you remember all the emotions, details, and love that surrounded you during that special time.

These photos are not just for you; they're a gift to your child. They'll show them how loved and welcomed they were from the very beginning, and these images will be cherished by you, your child, and your family for generations to come.

I want to make sure that everyone who wants to capture their birth story through photography has the opportunity to do so. That's why I offer payment plans to make the investment more manageable. I'm committed to making sure that you can have access to the beautiful, timeless images that you deserve!

Birth photography may seem expensive, but it's an investment in preserving memories, celebrating life, and honoring the birthing process.

So, if you're considering birth photography, know that it's worth every penny and more!

Don’t just take my word for it ;) Here is what some of my clients had to say about their investment:

"IF THERE’S ONE THING WE RECOMMEND FOR A BABY, IT’S BIRTH PHOTOS."

"My husband and I have invited Jen, and her camera into our labor room each time. Each time she felt like family, always a helping hand, your cheerleader, labor coach, personal assistant, the list goes on. She literally did it all, including rocking our toddler to sleep at 3am while we got some rest ourselves. She captured big and little details, and it’s amazing looking back to see the first diaper, little wrinkly toes, big brother fist bumping the doctor as baby made their entrance. If there’s one thing we recommend for a baby, it’s birth photos; it goes by so quickly, you quickly forget all the little details in those memories."

Seriously though, as a birth photographer, I think what I get the very most out of capturing this lifechanging event for families is being allowed to document this for them. It's an honor and a privilege to be invited into a families labor suite and the bond you form with your clients when you're a birth photographer. :)
